Pirate Radio
A pirate radio station (also known as free radio, bootleg radio and clandestine radio), is essentially a radio station that broadcasts without a valid license.
- Radio Caroline 1964 - The popularity of pirate radio in the UK rose in the early 1960s, with pop music stations broadcasting from offshore ships or disused sea forts. As these pirate stations where broadcasting from international waters, they were not technically illegal. https://www.radioking.com/blog/pirate-radio-a-brief-history/

Speculative fiction exercise - Inventing new instruments
in the pad of the day https://pad.vvvvvvaria.org/de_fine_art.01
(15 minutes)
Brainstorm the features of the instrument
Describe Your musical instrument invention from the kick off! If you didn't, imagine/invent a new one now!
[You can write 1 word or more. Up to 1 sentence per feature.]
Look (What does it look like?)
Feel (What materials is it made of?)
Functionalities (What is its function(s)?)
Usability (How can they be used? By whom? In which moments?)
(20 minutes)
Combine the features to create new instruments
Check the different features of the instruments from the previous step. Choose 4 you like, 1 for each category, check who is listed after you in the list of names and give to that person your 4 selected features:
eg. artemis > yoana: copy/paste the 4 features (Look, Feel, Functionalities, Usability)
(40 minutes)
Collective storytelling around the instruments
(20 minutes) Break out into 4 groups. Each group decides and pics an instrument that was invented above, to write a short story about it, using cut-up methodology. Participants of each group need first to decide on the following quickly:
- Write the name of the instrument and its 4 features - Look, Feel, Functionalities, Usability.
- Brainstorm 1, 2, 3 characters that will be included in the story, who are they (individual, collective, human, nature, machine? what are their name, age, gender, location? are they creating, mantaining, testing, using the instrument?). Write the info about those 1, 2 or 3 characters.
- Depending of how many people in the group write those numbers below in the pad,
1.
2.
3.
4.
etc
- Decide who is 1, 2, 3, 4 etc in your group.
Numer 1 knows she will start the story
Number 2 will prolongate it...
The last number that will close it.
(10 minutes) Everybody starts simultaneously the automatic writing of a story around that invented instrument including the context/characters that have been decided whithin the group.
(10 minutes) When the 10 mins are over, copy your extract of text next your number. The story is ready to be read with all the group.
(15 minutes)
Read the 4 stories to each other
