PLANNING-2020-transformationDesign
We live in a world that operates on bits and bytes. Reality has become synthetic. we take the human body and its capabilities as the starting point, compare the differences between human and machine sensing, and attempt to design interfaces, that can sense and respond to what humans normally can not do. Thus create a sensory substation or addition to enhance our experience of reality, investigate how we perceive reality and what it means to be human on the threshold of human-machine symbiosis. The approach can be humorous, critical or optimistic.
Planing:
Week01 – Introduction to electronics
A basic introduction to electronic components and basic Arduino circuits.
Week02 – Sensing
Hands-on Arduino exercise with sensors, we will discuss the difference and similarity between electronic sensors and human sensory organs. Further, discuss what kind of sensor data is not available to our human sense? And experiment on possible sensory addition or substitution.
Week03 – The Synthetic body:
After the previous week, we can now learn how to use the data from the sensors as input and give it an output. For example how we can translate the sensor data. To make it visible through sound, lights or motor movements.
Spring break:
Week04 – Body as Interface
During week 04, we will take a look at how to interface Arduino with MaxMSP: Learning how to read and write to Arduino from a computer and vice versa. For example, we will learn how to use Arduino sensor value to control audio, video player and generate visuals and sound.
Week05 – D&D Week
Week06 – Body as Interface 02
Week07 – Realization Week (individual tutorials)
Week08 – Presentation Week
